Benefits of a Companion

Dogs have the remarkable ability to give companionship, joy, and endless love to their human companions. We understand that introducing a dog into your life and home can be intimidating. Our program offers a unique experience that will help build your confidence. Having a dog that is a perfect fit for your lifestyle is truly one of the best feelings in the world.

Why get an elite family companion?

Many people desire a dog but do not want to endure the pains of raising and training a puppy or adopting a rescue dog with unpredictable behavioral issues.

An elite family companion is perfect for anyone wanting to take their dog to parks, sporting events, outdoor restaurants, local pet stores, and more! We train the dog to jog or walk on a loose leash beside you. You will enjoy the freedom of off-leash recall on the beach or a long hike. All of our dogs are well-behaved at home and in public spaces.

What makes us unique?

Matching a dog to you and customizing the dog’s training to your lifestyle allows for a life filled with the best parts of having a dog. We carefully evaluate each dog and client for the best possible fit. Each individual and dog is unique, and we account for that!

You will never have to worry about damage to your home, an aggressive dog towards your children or other family pets, or a disruptive dog at home or in public. We train and place well-mannered and good-natured dogs who are excited to be a part of your life!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is an elite family companion right for me?

Our dogs are perfect for nearly everyone, as long as you want a dog and have the time to dedicate to properly caring for them. Please do not hesitate to contact us! We can help you determine if we are a good fit.

How long does it take to get my dog?

The time it takes from first contacting us to delivering your dog varies widely. We put great effort into ensuring our dogs are well trained, and perfect for your lifestyle, which can take time! If we have a suitable match currently in our program and the dog’s training is nearly complete, it can be as short as 2 months. If that dog is not within our program, training typically takes 4-6 months, depending on additional factors.

How will I get my dog?

Over the past 20 years, we have perfected the best way to deliver a dog. Many people are unable to travel, or can’t dedicate the time. Barbara personally delivers each dog to your home. Over a 3 day period, she will teach you all of the obedience commands, how to navigate public spaces with your dog, accompany you on an exercise walk, and an introductory veterinary visit.

What breeds do you train?

At Rolling Meadows Academy, we strongly believe that individual temperaments matter far more than the breed. Through our rescue-based program, we have trained a huge variety of breeds and mixes. Clients often request specific breeds or sizes, which we usually accommodate unless we do not think it will be a good match.

Do you train puppies?

Rolling meadows does not train or deliver puppies as elite family companions. Our training standards are far too high for a dog under 1 years old to meet. Another reason is that a dog’s personality and temperament is fully developed at approximately 2 years old. It would be nearly impossible to properly match a puppy to their forever home similarly to our elite family companion program.

However, Barbara infrequently offers board and trains to local clients, which includes puppy basics
